At Movement Evolution Scotland we aim to increase participation in Freespirit Sports. These sports and activities value and promote individuality, creativity and freedom. They encourage us to look at the environment around us with play and imagination in our minds, and they develop athletic skills in fun and inclusive environments as well as encouraging autonomy and self-determination and the support and encouragement of others.

WHAT IS PARKOUR?

Parkour is the physical discipline of training to move freely over and through any terrain using only the abilities of the body, principally through running, jumping, climbing and swinging. In practice it focuses on developing the fundamental attributes required for such movement, which include functional strength and fitness, balance, spatial awareness, agility, coordination, precision, control and creative vision. Through Parkour we aim to build confidence, determination, self-discipline and self-reliance, self-expression and responsibility for one’s actions. Encouraging respect for others and for one’s environment, along with the importance of play, discovery and safety at all times.

We offer both regular Parkour classes at The Movement Bothy as well as Holiday Camps and Pop Up Parkour sessions.

ADVENTURERS

PRIMARY 1 CLASSES & PRIMARY 2-3 CLASSES

Our Adventurers classes are split between Primary 1 classes and Primary 2-3 classes, with a focus on fun, games and positive movement experiences.

All Adventurers work through The Movement Bothy Adventurers Parkour Journals.  Participants will collect a sticker in each class they attend, earning prizes along the way.  In each class participants will focus on a different set of Parkour skills, including: Jumping and striding; Rolling; Landing; Balancing; Vaulting; Swinging and using bars; Using walls; Acrobatic movements; and Line creation.

In addition to developing Parkour skills, each month we have a character focus.  These include: Communication and teamwork; Helpfulness and giving back; Bravery and positive self talk; Mindfulness and gratitude; Confidence and Independence; and Grit and growth mindset.

This class is booked by term and requires a Movement Bothy membership.

EXPLORERS &
TRAIL BLAZERS

PRIMARY 4-6 CLASSES & PRIMARY 7+ CLASSES

Both our Explorers (P4-P6) classes and our Trail Blazers (P7+) classes continue to focus on a different set of character skills each month, as well as a different group of Parkour skills each week however now participants begin to focus on skill acquisition and work through four stages of journals, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

These journals use a traffic light system whereby a participant is awarded different coloured stickers for skills in their journal. A red sticker if they have completed a skill but with inconsistent movement patterns and not always in control.  An orange
sticker if they have gained consistency in the skill but need more time to develop it further.  And a green sticker if they can complete the skill in a variety of settings with a high level of consistency. Once the participant achieves green stickers throughout their journal they will receive a reward before moving onto the next stage.
